About
Hello! My name is Werner Breedt. I play and publish under Tide me over:

Tide me over makes music and art for the soul and the heart; something to tide you over as you float on the swell, farther from weather-worn, closer to well.Tide me over blends mental health and multimedia, art and academia, to speak about the mind. It's a special kind of paradox, since the mind is so much more than words, and that is why we have art and music to help it be seen and heard.

A mass of psychedelic colour, interleaved with pop, hip hop, and other energetic beats, Tide me over treats the listener to a kaleidoscope of sound, storms of synths that compliment the thunderous background of 808 subs, fit for single souls adrift in space or masses in the clubs.

My first background lies in research psychology, where I focus on ontological aspects of the mind, including psychosis, schizophrenia, language and time. This is a sphere of mental health which is sorely neglected in our society, and most often approached through a lens of pathological notoriety.
I use my media and art to speak about this underserviced and misunderstood sphere of the psyche, and have begun sharing my own personal story in which I experienced an extreme psychological break more than 12 years ago as I began my Master's course for Research Psychology in Pretoria. I would complete the course with distinction, undetected and unscathed, though it would take me more than ten years to make sense of my unbelievable experience before I was able to start speaking about it publicly:
Now, I am using my art as a vehicle for mental health advocacy, producing music and media which overlaps entertainment and education in this area:
I produce music across genres, interleaving pop, hip-hop and other energetic beats into a kaleidoscope of sound. The reuse of fragments abounds in this transformational play, culminating in a very creative way to represent electronic music today. The live synthesis of these fragments into a set of songs serves as a metaphor for the mind and its temporal bonds as I play in the pocket of my own delay. The end result is an unbelievable audio-visual display.
My first full length album, EWA: Energy with Agency (Instrumental) is currently being released. EWA is unique because it is performed exclusively on a Novation Launchpad with no sequencing or automation. Two separate sample sessions are interleaved into a stunning set of sounds, with magic made in how they're all inextricably bound.
